Indications/Uses

Symptomatic relief of allergic rhinitis & common cold including nasal congestion, sneezing, rhinorrhea, pruritus & lacrimation.

Adult & childn ≥12 yr 1 tab once daily.

Overdosage

View Clarinase 24 Hr Extended Release overdosage for action to be taken in the event of an overdose.

Administration

May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity or idiosyncrasy to loratadine, pseudoephedrine sulfate or adrenergic agents. Narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, severe HTN & CAD, hyperthyroidism. Patients receiving MAOI therapy or w/in 14 days of discontinuation.

Special Precautions

Discontinue use if acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis occurs. Not to be used in patients w/ swallowing difficulties, upper GI narrowing or abnormal esophageal peristalsis. HTN, DM, ischemic heart disease, increased IOP, hyperthyroidism, prostatic hypertrophy; CNS stimulation w/ convulsions or CV collapse w/ accompanying hypotension. Discontinue use approx 48 hr prior to skin testing. Avoid abrupt w/drawal. Hepatic insufficiency. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr.

Drug Interactions

Increased plasma conc w/ ketoconazole, erythromycin, cimetidine. Hypertensive reactions including hypertensive crisis w/ MAOIs. Reduced antihypertensive effects of methyldopa, mecamylamine, reserpine, veratrum alkaloids. Increased ectopic pacemaker activity w/ digitalis. Increased absorption rate by antacids. Decreased absorption rate by kaolin. Diminished +ve reactions to dermal reactivity indicators. Concomitant use w/ β-blockers; other drugs inhibiting hepatic metabolism.
